Basic Combat Shotgun
The Basic Combat Shotgun course is designed to introduce the student to the shotgun as both a defensive and offensive weapons system. The focus the course works within Texas Pistol and Rifle Academy’s Combat Triad of Marksmanship, Mindset and Weapons Manipulation. Students will gain an understanding of this weapon’s strengths and versatility as well as discuss and demonstrate safe, efficient, ergonomic and universal weapons handling. Students will fire a variety of ammunition and learn to employ each appropriately in different situations while engaging individual as well as multiple targets. All of the skills learned will culminate on the Jungle Walk where the shooter will identify and engage targets from a verity of ranges. Students will find a dynamic and respectful training environment designed to push the student to excel beyond their comfort zone.
Students will learn: How to load, unload and combat reload their weapon as well as the use of the sling as a necessary part of effectively operating this weapons system. Students will learn to move dynamically to engage threats from a variety of practical and realistic positions.
Equipment Requirements: A tactical shotgun with a 4 to 6 round magazine capacity, sling (single point or double point), a Shotgun belt slide (for extra ammo) or shotgun shell sleeve (for the butt stock) or a dump pouch, Ballistic eye protection (clear or dark) and hearing protection ( ear plugs or muffs), 50 rounds of slug ammunition, 50 rounds of buck shot, and 200 rounds of 7 1/2 or 6 shot bird shot.
This course continues to build on the skills learned in the basic course and pushes the student’s skill set in a dynamic shooting environment while still focusing on the fundamentals. Students will continue to hone their weapons manipulation skills while adding much more movement into the shooting problems that will require the shooter to transition to a sidearm. Participants will learn to effectively engage targets out to 100 yards and will experience the ” Stony Drill” where shooting and moving are the easy part. This is a physically demanding course and timed events will add pressure.
